In truth, the Flash Hare’s Ear could have gone in either the clear or coloured water pack – it’s equally effective in either! We like it in more coloured water, the overall package of UV red thread, UV glister in the thorax, a bulky profile, and that flash back over the body – this all lends itself to less than perfect conditions. That said, we’ve had so much success with these in clearer water too, as well as on those days when the light levels are low and the fish just need a little bit extra to get them to commit. It’s our Swiss Army grayling nymph pattern, and always one of the first to be tied on for a session on our local waters.
