The Hi-Viz Sparkle Gnat is a total must-have for the river fly angler, as midges, gnats, and other assorted tiny food items make up such an important part of the diet of both trout and grayling. Those early season midge-sipping trout don’t stand a chance when the Sparkle gnat comes out, it’s just a question of matching the size to the midges on the water. As for the grayling, well, if you gave me one dry fly to fish for grayling with for the rest of my days, it’s be the Sparkle Gnat – they just can’t resist that midge profile!
Tied in the three most vital sizes, using a top quality, super sharp hook, the Sparkle Gnat uses the very best materials. Midge grade American hackles, stunning peacock for the bodies, and a sparkle butt which could suggest shuck or wing – we’ve thrown everything at these gnats. Added to this, we’ve listened to what you guys asked for, and upgraded our usual Sparkle Gnat with an ultra bright hi-viz sight post. No more panicking as your perfect cast unfurls in to the bubble line, only for the fly to seemingly vanish – even the tiny sz20 is super visible – even at range!
Tied with a full hackle, Andy prefers to trim the underside of his gnats down to make them sit flush in the film (as pictured), but the choice is yours!
